In March, when it was
still very chilly here in
Japan, I was able to make
a trip to warm Chiang Mai
(Thailand) and Manila
(Philippines) for a
conference and a study program. Though neither
were vacation trips, the
pleasure of Thai cuisine
and making new friends had all the refreshment of a
great vacation! Not only
that, many traveling with
me to Chiang Mai were
involved in Wheelchairs
of Hope and together we
took 6 wheelchairs to Thailand to donate to the RajanakarindraInstitute
of Child Development (RICD)
wheelchair project in
Chiang Mai.. The project
director, Dr. Samai, gave
us a full tour of the
facility. Their
holistic program works to
involve fathers in the
lives of the disabled
children. They even have a
toy lending program that
allows children who come
for therapy every week to
borrow new toys (a large
number had been donated by
Japan.) There is also a
place for parents to work
creating various crafts to
sell while their children
are in physical therapy.
We are thrilled to be
partnering with a program
that is so holistic!
