A Chair for Beautician Zar Zar Win

Zar Zar Win is a graduate of the Vocational Training Center (VTC) for persons with disabilities run by AAR Japan in Yangon where she operates a beauty salon.

According to Zar Zar Win, at age 3 she received in incorrect injection.  After the injection she had difficulty using her right leg.  She walks using a crutch or holding onto someone.

Zar Zar Win’s hometown is about a 24 hour drive from Yangon. Yet she wants to stay in Yangon and continue to improve her business.

According to Zar Zar Win, for awhile she felt that dependance on a crutch would impede her ability to gain full mobility. However while traveling to participate in a hairstyle event in Singapore, she realized she needed the crutch to make the trip and that the crutch actually allowed her to become more independent.

Because standing for 30-40 minutes caused her pain, Zar Zar Win sometimes needed to ask a customer to wait for 5-10 minutes until the pain eased up before she could continue work.  She hoped for a wheelchair to use while working.  She would also sometimes slip and fall when the floor was wet. Now with this wheelchair she no longer needs to ask customers to wait nor does she fear falling.

In her thank you she expressed her desire to travel, not just in Myanmar but also abroad.  Maybe we’ll have the privilege of seeing her in Japan some day.
