One year ago just now, a mother and father came to Wheelchairs of Hope in Ekoda bringing this pink wheelchair. It had belonged to their daughter, Sayuri, who liked pink and Disney princesses. They kept the chair for 7 years after her death, but then heard about Wheelchairs of Hope and decided to donate it so another girl elsewhere could have a wheelchair.
The chair traveled in a container to Thailand where our partners at RICD reported back that they delivered the wheelchair to a young girl in southern Thailand, Nor-ira. Nor-ira is one of six children, three of whom have disabilities. Nor-ira’s condition is the most severe in her family; her two brothers with disabilities can walk. Nor-ira’s older sister has gotten married but remains nearby to help her mother care for Nor-ira. The RICD director reported, “They were VERY excited to get their new wheelchair. It is difficult to express how appreciative they were.”
A big thank you to Sayuri’s parents for generously donating the wheelchair, and to RICD for partnering in distributing the container of wheelchairs. Together, we can bring wheelchairs and hope to many more.
